Editing Images

Free Photo Viewer is primarily a viewer, but it includes practical tools for quick adjustments before saving a copy. Edits apply to the in-memory image until you save - original files on disk are not overwritten unless you choose the same path.

Enhance contrast, colors, and gamma

Choose Image → Enhance Contrast, Colors, Gamma… (or the toolbar equivalent). A dialog opens with sliders for:

  • Red, Green, Blue - Color channel balance
  • Brightness - Overall lightness
  • Contrast - Tonal range separation
  • Saturation - Color intensity
  • Gamma - Mid-tone correction

Adjust sliders until the preview looks right, then click OK. Click Reset to discard all changes and start over.

Rotate

Use Image → Turn left or Turn right, or press L / R in full-screen mode. Rotation is non-destructive until you save.

Resize

Choose Image → Resize or press Ctrl+R. Enter new dimensions in pixels. Useful for creating web-sized copies without opening a full editor.

Paste from clipboard

Image → Paste (Ctrl+V) inserts an image copied from another application. You can then edit and save it as a new file.

Zoom

Image → Zoom-in / Zoom-out / 100% scales the preview. In full-screen, use + and - for zoom. The status bar shows the current scale factor.

Save as a new file

Choose File → Save image as… to write the current (possibly edited) image to disk. Supported formats include JPG, PNG, BMP, and TIF.

For JPEG output, the Image Saving Options dialog lets you set quality and preview file size. Higher quality means larger files. Use Estimate size and quality to compare before saving.
