EXIF & IPTC Metadata Viewer

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) stores camera settings embedded in JPEG and many RAW files. IPTC fields hold descriptive metadata such as captions, keywords, and copyright - often added by photo agencies or editing software.

Where to view metadata

In the main window, select a photo and look at the EXIF pane beside the image preview. Available tags depend on what your camera or editor wrote to the file.

In full-screen mode, enable on-screen EXIF subtitles via Settings → Full-screen → Show EXIF info, or press E while viewing to toggle subtitles on and off. Subtitles typically include filename, date and time, exposure, aperture, focal length, and ISO.

Common EXIF fields

  • Camera model - Make and model of the capturing device
  • Date and time - When the photo was taken
  • Exposure - Shutter speed
  • Aperture - f-number
  • ISO - Sensor sensitivity
  • Focal length - Lens setting in millimeters
  • Flash - Whether flash fired
  • Orientation - Used for automatic rotation when enabled in settings

IPTC fields

When an image contains IPTC data, fields such as headline, caption, keywords, creator, and copyright may appear alongside EXIF values. IPTC is especially useful for stock photography and editorial workflows.

Export metadata to a file

Choose File → Save EXIF and IPTC tags… to export all available metadata from the current image. You can save as plain text or HTML for archiving, printing, or sharing with clients.

The export includes both EXIF shooting parameters and IPTC descriptive tags when present in the file.

Search by EXIF

Searching photos across folders by EXIF criteria is not included in the free viewer. That feature is available in our separate EXIF Search application.
