Getting Started

Free Photo Viewer opens directly to a folder browser so you can start reviewing photos in seconds. Follow these steps for a typical workflow.

1. Launch the program

After downloading and installing Free Photo Viewer, start it from the Windows Start menu or a desktop shortcut. No registration or account is required.

2. Open a folder of photos

The left side of the main window shows a folder tree. Expand drives and directories until you reach a folder with your images. Thumbnails of supported JPEG, PNG, and RAW files appear in the upper-right file pane.

3. Select a photo and read EXIF data

Click any thumbnail. The selected image opens in the image pane at the bottom of the window. If the file contains EXIF metadata, shooting parameters - such as exposure, aperture, ISO, focal length, and camera model - appear in the EXIF pane next to the image. See EXIF & IPTC for details.

4. Switch to full-screen mode

Press Enter or choose View → Full-screen to view the current photo on your entire display. Navigate with the ← → arrow keys or Space (next) and Backspace (previous). Press Del to delete rejects while culling through a folder. Press Enter again or Esc to return to the windowed view.

5. Run a slideshow or make quick edits

Press S to start an automatic slideshow from the current photo. To adjust contrast, resize, rotate, or save a copy, use commands on the Image menu - covered in Editing Images.
